Labour, Employment and Human Resources

Provincial Government

  • Labour Relations Code, Employment Standards Act and regulations, occupational health and safety legislation/regulation, provincial Human Rights policy and legislation
  • The Workers' Compensation Board
  • Labour Relations Board legal interventions on cases of interest to the employer community
  • Analysis of policy recommendations concerning skill shortages, apprenticeship training, and provincial skill development policy
  • Development and operation of new Industry Training Authority
  • Publication of the monthly Industrial Relations Bulletin (monitors collective bargaining activity and settlements, wage trends, and other indicators; and reviews legal decisions relevant to collective bargaining and employer-employee relations)

Note: The Business Council is currently participating in

  • The Transitional Advisory Committee on the Industry Training Authority
  • Workers' Compensation Board advisory committees on various policy initiatives, including the Health and Safety Advisory Committee
  • Employment Standards Advisory Group
  • Human Rights Advisory Group

Federal Government

  • Canada Labour Code legislative changes (these apply to federally-regulated industries including banking, transportation, and telecommunications)
  • Federal employment equity and human rights legislation
  • Employment insurance program (regular consultations on annual premium setting and program parameters)
