Events and Member Engagement Lead

The Business Council of British Columbia (BCBC), western Canada’s leading member-based economic and public policy research and advocacy organization, is seeking a creative and detail-oriented individual to lead the delivery of the Business Council’s dynamic events and member engagement activities.

As the place where leaders meet to unlock B.C.’s full potential, the Business Council is recognized for presenting impactful events which advance ideas and solutions to strengthen the province’s prosperity for the benefit of all who live here. We have hosted national and global business and economic leaders including Microsoft Founder, Bill Gates, as well as the company’s President, Brad Smith, and CEO, Satya Nadella. Other business leaders include the Chairman and CEO of GE, the CEO of RBC, as well as the head of Shell Canada. We also convene public officials for roundtables and events with our members including Premiers, Prime Ministers, Federal and Provincial cabinet ministers, Indigenous leaders, and diplomats such as Canadian and foreign ambassadors.

In addition to the exceptional public policy research work of our team of economists and policy experts, the Business Council also leads several special initiatives including the Cascadia Innovation Corridor, the NEXT Leaders Council, the B.C. Economic Dashboard, the B.C. Business Confidence Survey, as well as MOUs with several partners including the B.C. Assembly of First Nations.

To help advance this work among our membership and key partners, the Events and Member Engagement Lead will support BCBC’s engagement with our 200+ members which includes the largest and leading private sector enterprises, as well as major post-secondary institutions, crown corporations and other industry associations from across British Columbia, and convene national and international Indigenous, senior government, academic and c-suite business leaders.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the SVP Public Affairs and Communications and collaborating across the organization, the Events and Member Engagement Lead will power our convening activities and be responsible for the planning and execution of all BCBC virtual and in-person events, forums and roundtables. This work will include speaker invitations and coordination, event invitations and marketing, arranging appropriate technical requirements including third party AV support, liaising with the venue and development of necessary event related materials.

In addition, the successful candidate will help maintain the Council’s corporate communications and events calendar, be responsible for select special initiatives of the Council, including the NEXT Leaders Council, and support member communications including writing in a variety of forms.

Education and experience: The ideal candidate has completed a related post-secondary undergraduate degree and 3-5 years of professional events and communications experience. They are a self-starter with exceptional written and oral English language skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. An understanding of emerging digital communications tools and an ability to work in Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign) and/or other creative digital platforms would be an asset. Further, they are highly organized and very detail oriented with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines. An understanding of the Vancouver event supplier market and an ability to understand requirements for, and give direction to, AV contractors is essential. General knowledge about the B.C. economy and public policy landscape would be an asset.
