Productivity in Focus: B.C.’s Natural Gas Opportunity

  • Deloitte 410 West Georgia Street Vancouver, British Columbia, V6B 1Z3 Canada (map)

The Business Council of British Columbia invites you to the next session in our Productivity in Focus series, Build, Sell, Compete: Delivering on B.C.’s Natural Gas Opportunity. This multi-year initiative focuses on the structural barriers to productivity growth in British Columbia and the economic levers needed to drive capital investment and raise living standards.

B.C. is sitting on an abundance of low-cost natural gas, but much of its value is being left on the table. Without enough infrastructure to move it or demand to use it here at home, the gap between what that gas is worth in the ground and what it’s worth delivered to a customer remains one of the largest untapped investment opportunities in the province.

With the new provincial government committed to doubling natural gas production by 2032 and tripling it by 2035, the question now is what it will take to get there. This session brings together leaders from across the natural gas value chain to explore three themes:

  • Build: getting projects built, from First Nations partnerships and land access to approvals and permitting

  • Sell: building markets for B.C. gas, from export capacity to demand at home, including natural gas-fired electricity

  • Compete: keeping B.C. competitive on costs, rules, and access to electricity
