Why the Canada-Alberta MOU is good for the country
Today, the federal government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Alberta. Here are five reasons we believe this MOU is good for Canada:
It removes an overly restrictive and unrealistic emissions cap on the oil and gas sector, clearing the way for private investment in Canada’s top export industry.
It sends a strong signal to global investors that Canada is open for business and serious about attracting private capital.
It supports trade diversification by strengthening Canada’s ability to get resources to non-U.S. markets.
It reinforces a more pragmatic approach to environmental policy by balancing emissions management goals with economic realities.
It strengthens Canada’s economic base, helping create high-paying jobs and generating the revenue needed to fund critical public services like health care and education.
While today’s MOU facilitates the conditions for more private investment and trade diversification, we now look to see these commitments translated into real, measurable action that delivers clear benefits for all Canadians.
