BCBC Statement on Provincial Election Results

The Business Council of British Columbia (BCBC) congratulates Lorne Doerkson and the BC Conservatives on their majority election victory. We also extend our congratulations to all newly elected and returning Members of the Legislative Assembly. Running for public office is no small undertaking, and we thank all candidates for their dedication and willingness to serve British Columbians.

Following his announcement that he will step down as BC NDP leader, we thank Premier David Eby for his service to British Columbia and wish him well.

Tonight’s results give the incoming government a strong mandate to deliver change. With economic growth stalled, business investment lagging, and growing pressure on household finances, there is an urgent need to restore confidence and get B.C.’s economy back on track.

The incoming government has an important opportunity to address these challenges and lay the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous province.

BCBC recently released its B.C. Policy Playbook, outlining practical recommendations to strengthen the economy, attract investment and create opportunities for British Columbians. We were encouraged to see several of these priorities reflected in the BC Conservatives’ platform and look forward to working with the new government to turn good ideas into good policy.

B.C. has tremendous economic potential, but realizing it will require a renewed focus on competitiveness, investment and sustainable economic growth. BCBC stands ready to be a constructive partner in this work, bringing the voice of the province’s business community and practical, evidence-based solutions to the table.
