Director or Vice President – Policy & Economics

The Business Council of British Columbia (BCBC) is seeking an experienced professional with a strong interest in economics and public policy to join our team. This is a new position that will be filled at either the Director or Vice President level, depending on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding BCBC’s capacity in economic analysis, policy development, and external engagement, helping to shape and advance policy ideas through clear, compelling communication to a range of audiences. We are looking for someone who is creative, team-oriented, has a good sense of humour, and is motivated to drive policy changes that support a more prosperous future.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing policy proposals, ideas and strategies to influence government decision-makers and other B.C./Canadian opinion leaders, including case-studies on effective policy proposals.

  • Taking the lead on economic products, including research papers, blogs, and op-eds.

  • Supporting the communications team, providing public comment through the media and presenting at conferences, meetings and public events as required in a manner that supports our brand and strategic goals.

  • Working with the events team on opportunities to profile relevant speakers.

  • Building relationships with government policymakers whose portfolios touch on issues relevant to BCBC’s activities.

  • Staying current with academic and think tank literature that can help inform the Council’s work on relevant policy files.

The desired requirements for this job are:

  • A graduate degree in economics or related field in strongly preferred.

  • A solid knowledge of the B.C./Canadian economic and political environment.

  • Strong analytical skills and capacity to interpret and summarize information for a variety of audiences, including government and the public.

  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills with an interest in participating in external engagement activities.

  • Comfortable giving presentations and speaking to media on key policy topics.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills and the ability to work independently.
